Kindergarten

Daily Schedule

Somerset's Kindergarten is an afternoon program which focuses on higher level thinking skills and conceptual understandings. Beginning with concrete, hands-on learning experiences, and a print rich environment, students have the opportunity to choose from a variety of activities and are involved in reading and writing throughout the day. As children hear, speak, read, and write meaningful language, literacy skills are integrated into daily activities in various ways. Children gain knowledge about their social and physical worlds through relationships and playful interactions with people and the environment, and then children use their thinking and language to talk about those experiences. This provides the basis for meaningful learning. Somersetís literacy model is very consistent with that of the Rochester Community Schools. Parents desiring a full day program add a Pre-K morning schedule in the same classroom with the same teacher, to their child's afternoon Kindergarten program.
